CAREER PROFILES

Here are the stories of how and, more importantly, why a few members of our professional staff joined the Ellin & Tucker team:

Aileen E. (Principal)

“I was first introduced to E&T through the on-campus interviewing process at Towson University.  I interviewed with eight different accounting firms but felt the most comfortable with the individuals I met from E&T.  The professional atmosphere and the camaraderie I experienced were genuine and made for an easy choice to begin my career.

Over the past 12 years at E&T, I have grown as a person and as a professional and have made life-long friends with co-workers and clients alike.  I have developed my skill of being an accountant and my expertise in consulting with clients in order to help them grow and become more successful.  The firm has always been supportive of my professional development and has allowed me to be an individual and set my own path to success. When I decided to go to a part time work schedule due to family commitments, the firm encouraged me in my new role.   Balancing my part time schedule has not always been easy, but the firm has been supportive and willing to make it work.

I feel very passionate about Ellin & Tucker and the people who make this firm a wonderful place to work.”

Jason M. (Manager)

"I came to Ellin & Tucker after receiving an accounting degree from Towson University in 2001. I am also a graduate of James Madison University (with a marketing degree) and worked in retail management for about seven years prior to making a decision to change careers.

Because I was a little older than most entry level accountants, I felt like I had to make the right choice the first time when selecting an accounting firm. When I met with Ellin & Tucker, I was very impressed with the fact that everyone I spoke to started with E&T as a staff accountant and worked his/her way up to the position of director, manager, or supervisor. That indicated to me that E&T has had success in developing its professional staff and provided an excellent opportunity to grow at your own pace within the firm.

After considering other options, I joined the firm in January 2002 and can honestly say that I could not have made a better decision."

Jennifer T. (Supervisor)

“In the fall of 2002, I was at Penn State University and, as graduation was pending, I knew I needed to secure a position in the working world.  Like many other accounting majors, I knew I wanted to go into public accounting, but I had no clue what it would really be like.

I interviewed with several accounting firms in the Washington, D.C./Baltimore area and, although all of them promised to provide me with a paycheck every other week, I wanted more than just decent money.  I wanted to love what I did for a living.  And then I interviewed with E&T . . .

What set E&T apart is the people.  Everyone seemed so enthusiastic about the work they did and the people with whom they worked.  I wanted to be a part of that.  E&T gave their employees opportunities that other firms didn’t –
the chance to see an engagement from start to finish, including the tax work,
the opportunity to grow within the firm (many of today’s E&T partners started at E&T as staff accountants), and a promise of life/work balance.

My experiences at E&T over the past four years have encouraged my growth both personally and professionally.  I have been encouraged to develop relationships with both clients and partners, and my ever-evolving role as an E&T professional has kept the work both challenging and interesting.

I have never regretted choosing E&T.  In fact, I am the only one of my friends who can honestly say that I love what I do for a living.”

Stephanie D. ( Supervisor)

"I came to Ellin & Tucker after receiving an accounting degree from Loyola College in 2004. My only experience was a college internship with a CPA who had recently left work at a big four firm to start his own practice. I learned from this internship that I wanted to work for a firm that was large enough to provide exposure to a variety of industries, while small enough to be more involved in the engagements and have opportunities to work one on one with managers and directors.

After meeting with Ellin & Tucker, I was very impressed by the people that I met, which made my choice to join the firm very clear. I am still very happy with my decision and have realized that the most important factor for any job should be a good working environment."

Bryan P. (Supervisor)

"I started with Ellin & Tucker after graduating from the University of Delaware in May of 2004. During my senior year, I interviewed and visited with many national and regional firms in the Baltimore/Washington area. While interviewing with E&T, I was very impressed by the atmosphere that the people at E&T created. It was easy to see that E&T would offer a challenging career while providing the guidance and training to be successful.

During my first year, my assignments provided numerous opportunities for personal and professional growth. I have been encouraged to develop relationships with clients, managers and directors, something I would not have had the opportunity to do with some other firms I first considered. In addition to working with a wide array of people, Ellin & Tucker has offered me the opportunity to experience many service areas.

E&T not only provided an outstanding platform from which to grow, but continues to invest in its people and encourage firm participation. During my time with E&T, I have had the opportunity to become involved in the recruiting committee, the technology committee and am currently enrolled as a member of the Leadership Academy, a program designed by the MACPA to prepare young professionals for today’s business world. E&T's commitment to its people has been very evident.

My daily experiences at E&T have not only offered challenges but continue to be very rewarding. The staff that I work with on a daily basis has been very friendly, and the firm continues to stress a work/life balance. I am confident I have made the right decision to become part of Ellin & Tucker."
