SCHOLARSHIP CONTINUES LEGACY OF LESTER ELLIN, CPA
A scholarship has been established by the employees of Ellin & Tucker, Chartered in memory of the accounting firm's founder, Lester Ellin, who passed away on November 29, 2000.
The Lester Ellin Scholarship Fund, Inc. will grant scholarships to eligible young men and women who desire to pursue studies in the field of accounting. Applicants will be decided based on need, academic accomplishment and community service. The amount of the grant will vary and be renewable each year if the recipient maintains a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher.
"Lester Ellin believed in fiscal excellence and service to the greater community," said Managing Director, Edwin Brake, "and we felt that this would be a living legacy to enable today's youth to become tomorrow's financial and community leaders."
Lester exuded a warmth and love of others that touched everyone who met him. He brought a positive attitude and common sense approach to both business and civic tasks.
It is fitting that Lester would be honored with a scholarship that empowers young people rather than a monument of metal or stone. People--especially young people--were very important to Lester. It is hoped that this scholarship will help deserving young men and women receive the education necessary to become the business and civic leaders of the future. The employees of Ellin & Tucker, Chartered intend to pass on the legacy of excellence and service through the establishment of the Lester Ellin Scholarship Fund.
"We wish to take a strong personal interest in the academic and professional development of each scholarship recipient and will consider incorporating internships and other work-study opportunities at some future time," said Brake.
Friends and business associates of Lester Ellin are more than welcome to contribute to the Scholarship Fund. All donations are tax-deductible and can be sent to the Lester Ellin Scholarship Fund, Inc., Suite 1300, 100 South Charles Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21201.
